John Kane
Chairman and CEO
John Kane is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He is a past member of Young Presidents’ Organization, and currently a member of Chief Executives Organization and World Presidents’ Organization. John is a current board member of the North Carolina Symphony, Research Triangle Regional Partnership, Duke Raleigh Hospital Advisory Board and former board member of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers. John was a founding vestry member of Holy Trinity Church, and was also the founder of the Coaches’ Luncheon, an annual fundraiser held on behalf of Oak Ranch, an organization that acts as an agent of healing and hope for troubled youths and their families in North Carolina. Prior to the formation of Kane Realty Corporation in 1978, Mr. Kane worked with George W. Kane, Inc., a general contractor in Durham, North Carolina.
In 2004, John was recognized as Business Leader of the Year by Business Leader Magazine, received the Pillar Award by the Triangle Business Journal, and the Impact Award by Triangle CREW. John was recognized as the Developer of the Year in 2005 by TCAR. In 2009, the News and Observer selected John Kane as “Top 10 to Watch in 2009”. Also in 2009, he was presented with the Sir Walter Raleigh Award by Mayor Charles Meeker under unanimous approval by the Raleigh City Council honoring the significant improvements to the appearance of Raleigh through the re-development of North Hills over the past 10 years. In 2010, John received the prestigious Thad Eure, Jr Memorial Award from the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau which recognizes an individual that has made a major impact on the Wake County hospitality industry.
Mike Smith
President and COO
Mike Smith received his bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and holds a masters degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Mike’s professional experience includes working in the Political Affairs Office of The White House, participating in Citicorp Asia’s China Fund in Hong Kong, Vice President Banc of America Securities’ Capital Markets Group, and Managing Director at PNC Capital Markets.
Mike was named one of the Triangle Business Journal’s “Forty Under Forty” for 2004. He is a member of Young Presidents Organization (YPO), The Conference Table (Wake County Visitor’s Industry Advocacy Group), serves as Vice Chairman for Economic Development on the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, Chairman of the Wake County Economic Development Department Board, member of the Board of Trustees of St. David’s School and the Leadership Council at Church of the Apostles. He is a former member of Wake Forest University Alumni Council’s Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of Oak Ranch. Association memberships include The International Center of Shopping Centers, Urban Land Institute and National Association of Industrial and Office Parks.
T.J. Barringer
Development Director
As Kane Realty Corporation’s Development Director, T.J. Barringer leads and oversees all development efforts - ushering projects through acquisition, entitlements, design, construction, stabilization, and disposition. He has direct experience with numerous development types, including retail, residential, office, mixed-use, and infrastructure. He also directs Kane's general contracting department, which specializes in tenant upfits and single family residential construction.
Before joining Kane, T.J. consulted in the Atlanta office of Bain & Company, a global business strategy consulting firm where he drove results for clients in numerous industries. He also has analyst experience with Lehman Brothers Investment Bank in New York and Highwoods Properties in Raleigh.
T.J. graduated with highest distinction from the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Business Administration, and he also studied at the center for European studies at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. T.J. is active with the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce through the Leadership Raleigh program, Urban Land Institute through the Young Leaders program, and at Hayes Barton Methodist Church through various service and outreach programs.
Steve Brown
Senior Vice President and Director of Retail
Steve Brown’s primary responsibility as Director of Retail Leasing is the supervision of the company’s retail leasing activities. In addition, he is responsible for the direct execution of specific projects. With more than twenty-five years as a real estate broker with a concentration in retail properties, Steve has had experience with all types of shopping center projects – leasing properties ranging from small, unanchored specialty centers to multi-anchored regional malls. His experience includes the leasing of new centers as well as re-merchandising existing properties under redevelopment. Steve has former associations with Rubin Strouse Retail in Philadelphia and North Hills, Inc. in Raleigh, where his focus was on traditional enclosed regional malls as well as distressed properties.
Steve is a graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Steve was recognized by the Triangle Business Journal for the execution of the Triangle market’s largest retail lease for 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2010 in addition to being recognized for the Top Retail Lease Transaction of the Decade in 2010. He has also been received the Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors Million Dollar Leasing Club award in 2006, 2007 and 2011.
Steve is Vice-Chair of the Board of Visitors at East Carolina University as well as an Elder at Grace Community Church. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, The Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors and the CCIM. Steve is also a member of the Board of Visitors of East Carolina University. He has earned the Certified Commercial - Investment Member (CCIM) designation from the CCIM Institute and the Senior Certified Leasing Specialist (SCLS) designation from the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Bonner Gaylord
North Hills General Manager
Bonner Gaylord oversees day-to-day operations at North Hills and directs members of Kane’s property management team on marketing strategy, events, sponsorships, public safety, custodial, maintenance, and tenant relationships. He is also involved in the planning of North Hills’ expansion, which when complete will make the project one of the country’s largest mixed-use developments.
Prior to joining Kane, Bonner held positions as both project manager and builder with Richard Gaylord homes in Raleigh where he worked on developments in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Apex and Wake Forest. He has also worked for DiVosta/Pulte Homes in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Bonner holds an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Kenan-Flagler Business School where he was a Hobgood Fellow. He is a Friday Fellow through the William C. Friday Fellowship for Human Relations, a NC licensed general contractor, a NC licensed real estate broker, and a LEED accredited professional through the US Green Building Council. Bonner serves on the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina, and the Greater Raleigh Merchant Association and has served on the Raleigh Planning Commission and numerous other boards. In addition, Bonner served as past Chairman of the Young Leaders Group for Urban Land Institute (ULI) and Past Executive Committee Member of the ULI Triangle District Council. Bonner was elected as a Raleigh City Councilor in 2009 and currently is serving on the Public Works and Comprehensive Planning Committees and as council liaison to six local boards and commissions. Bonner received the Forty Under Forty award in 2009 from the Triangle Business Journal and the 2011 Outstanding Public Servant award from the N.C. Center for Voter Education.
Jennings Glenn
Chief Financial Officer
Jennings Glenn is Kane Realty Corporation’s senior financial officer with responsibility for overseeing financial strategy and planning and coordination among all financial disciplines of the company. Prior to his position with Kane Realty Corporation, Jennings was the controller for Southern Industrial Constructors, Inc. in Raleigh where he was responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting. He also worked as a senior associate at Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP in Raleigh and as a staff accountant at Blackman & Sloop CPA’s P.A. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Jennings holds a degree in accounting from North Carolina State University and a degree in political science from Queens College in Charlotte. He is Treasurer of Aldert Root Educational Foundation Board of Directors, member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors, Finance Chair for StepUP Ministry Board of Directors. He is also former chair for the Loaves and Fishes board of directors and a Deacon/Church Officer at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was named one of the Triangle Business Journal’s “Forty Under Forty” for 2010.
Tish Turner
Director of Office Development
As Director of Office Development for Kane Realty Corporation, Tish Turner spearheads marketing, leasing and development efforts for office space within North Hills including CAPTRUST Tower at North Hills. In this position she has responsibility for approximately 400,000 square feet of existing space and spends significant time working and developing additional office projects. Under her direction, North Hills received the CREW Champion Award for Best Office Development for 2006.
In 2009, Tish was recognized with the TBJ Women in Business Award and graduated from the Raleigh Chamber’s Leadership Raleigh program. In addition, she has been featured as one of the “Women to Watch” in Space, a publication of the Triangle Business Journal, and was a recognized by The National Association of Professional Women and a recipient of their membership. Tish is currently a member of the National Board of Directors for NAIOP, the Board of Directors & Executive Committee Member for Boys & Girls Club of Wake County, and the Board of Directors for the WakeMed Foundation. Also, she is a member of and serves on the local CREW chapter, Raleigh Chamber Board of Advisors, Raleigh Chamber Economic Development Committee, Leadership Raleigh Alumni Association, Boys & Girls Club Program Committee Chair, Boys & Girls Club Breakfast of Champions Committee, WakeMed Champion member, WakeMed Cultivation Committee member, WakeMed Supper Club Committee Chair, Bible Study Fellowship, and AnGeL Ministries volunteer. She is a past member of: the Board of Directors for TRAOBA and Spotlight Chair, the Board of Directors for the local NAIOP chapter and Program Chair, Board of Directors for the local CREW chapter, and the Board of Directors for Interact of Wake County.
Prior to joining Kane Realty Corporation, Tish was vice president of Commercial Carolina. Her background also includes a leasing position with Highwoods Properties. Before beginning her career in commercial real estate, she taught math and coached at the High School level.
A Cary native, Tish graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and a minor in education.
